Taunting penalties in the NFL have been piling up since this year’s rule change and with them the resentment. Raiders coach Jon Gruden isn’t a fan of the new rules either and has now vented his anger properly.
Munich – The many penalties for taunting are causing a lot of discussion in the NFL.
In the Monday Night Game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders, the next one promptly followed. Raiders tight end Darren Waller was given a 15-yard penalty for throwing the ball on the ground after a catch on the Chargers sideline.
Obviously, Waller’s action was not directed against the Chargers, the commentators of the colleagues of “ESPN” agreed. Nevertheless, the yellow flag flew on the turf.
Jon Gruden: “I hate taunting “
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden vented his anger at the decision after the game, “I don’t understand taunting. I hate taunting and I think it’s ridiculous,” the 58-year-old said.
For Gruden, there is no clear line in the referees’ calls. “I think what happens after touchdowns or interceptions is then also taunting. But we allow that cheering. I don’t understand what happened on the Chargers sideline. “
But the referee has spoken, so you have to accept that decision, Gruden said. But it only made life harder for the Raiders on Monday night: “We could never really get the momentum on our side because of that,” the head coach explained.
