St. Brown and the Lions dream – Chiefs win in Buffalo

After his touchdown debut in the play-offs, Amon-Ra St. Brown is dreaming of the first Super Bowl in team history with the Detroit Lions. The German-American wide receiver won with the Lions on Sunday in the NFL Divisional Round 31:23 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and advanced to the NFC conference final. The last time Detroit reached this final was in 1992.

The San Francisco 49ers are heading into this weekend’s showdown for a spot in the Super Bowl in Las Vegas (February 11). Only the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans have never been in the final of the Vince Lombardi Trophy alongside the Lions, who won two play-off games in a season for the first time since 1957.

“And if I have to block 100 players, if I have to catch 100 balls – I’ll do whatever it takes,” St. Brown, who plays in the playoffs with his hair dyed blue, said in an NBC interview before kickoff: “Our time has come.” But it took time for quarterback Jared Goff to find his way to his favorite receiver for the first time late in the first quarter.

Both teams defended hard and uncompromisingly. Nevertheless, St. Brown slowly got into the game better, but the first touchdown of the game was caught by his teammate Josh Reynolds. Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield countered with a perfect pass to Cade Otton. Before Craig Reynolds ran into the end zone for the Lions, St. Brown caught an important pass – and later celebrated his first play-off touchdown.

Meanwhile, the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs made it to the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. Led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a strong defense, the Chiefs won a thriller 27-24 at the Buffalo Bills and advanced to the NFL semifinals for the sixth time in a row.

“We wanted to make a point that we can do it away from home,” said Mahomes, who threw two touchdowns to tight end Travis Kelce. Bills kicker Tyler Bass missed a field goal with two minutes left to tie the game.

In Baltimore, “the best performance” is needed next weekend, said Mahomes: “The stadium will be shaking. “
