Re-signing Calvin Ridley would cost Jaguars higher draft pick

Calvin Ridley had a strong season for the Jaguars. If he re-signs, another team should be happy too

Calvin Ridley led the Jacksonville Jaguars in receiving yards last season. Unsurprisingly, general manager Trent Baalke announced at a press conference: “We’d like to keep Calvin on the team. We’re going to work on that.”

Not only should Jags fans be enthusiastic about this, but also Atlanta Falcons fans.

The reason for this lies in the terms of the trade that sent the pass receiver from Atlanta to Jacksoville. The Falcons will receive the Jaguars’ second-round pick from 2024 if Ridley re-signs with head coach Doug Pederson’s team for 2024.

If the free agent does not re-sign with the Jaguars for the upcoming season, the Falcons will only receive a third-round pick.

Originally, by the way, it was said as part of the trade that Atlanta would receive a fourth-round pick. However, that compensation has already been upgraded to a third-round pick due to the pass receiver’s strong performance.
