Raiders running back Josh Jacobs continues to sit out for a new contract. The Raiders remain undeterred and name a new number one running back.
Running backs are one of the hot topics currently in the NFL. While most positions are always getting new record contracts, running backs are often going without at the moment. The position is too easy to replace for many teams, which is why teams don’t want to spend big on running backs.
Many running backs have voiced their displeasure with this. The most prominent case was Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, who openly announced he would not play if the Giants did not give him a big enough contract.
However, Barkley has now reached an agreement with the Giants for the time being. Another prominent running back negotiating for a new contract is Raiders running back Josh Jacobs.
Raiders: White listed as No. 1
Jacobs is not participating in Raiders practice at this time. The Raiders don’t seem to want to fold for now, putting previously second-year running back Zamir White on the roster as the number one option.
White is entering his second year and hasn’t gotten much playing time so far. That’s why you shouldn’t read too much into this move by the Raiders.
The whole thing is more of a symbolic act. Still, it doesn’t suggest that the Raiders and Jacobs are close to an agreement. So who will start for the Raiders in week one remains to be seen.
