Does Ben Roethlisberger have to fear for his role as the undisputed leader of the Pittburgh Steelers? “ESPN” reporter Adam Schefter can’t imagine the quarterback will give up.
Munich – Ben Roethlisberger is being counted on almost daily these days. More and more voices are calling for the two-time Super Bowl champion to be replaced. It would be a humiliation in what is presumably his last NFL season.
Looking at the numbers, however, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback has few arguments on his side. The team stands at a 1-3 record, “Big Ben” has thrown four interceptions in addition to four touchdown passes, and his QB rating of 78.9 is one of the worst of any starter.
Schefter: “Steelers will never bench Roethlisberger “
So does the 39-year-old have to make way for Dwayne Haskins or Mason Rudolph soon? A very clear no, says Adam Schefter. The “ESPN” reporter stressed on the network’s “Get Up” show, “They’re never going to bench him. It will never come to that.”
Rather, the veteran says, “He’s got to get back to playing better and making better decisions to get the team back to the level it was in Week 1 when the Steelers beat the Buffalo Bills. “
This game, meanwhile, seems like it came from another era. Back then, the Steelers turned a 10-0 intermission deficit into a 23-16 win, but even then, all Roethlisberger needed was a touchdown pass.
Clear Steelers statement to “ESPN” reporter
But the criticism only picked up steam when the team suddenly lost. Before Sunday’s clash with the Denver Broncos, head coach Mike Tomlin also once again demonstratively stood in front of the signal caller, with whom he has worked since 2007.
Obviously more than just lip service. Because Schefter’s colleague Jeremy Fowler declared to have received the answer from the franchise to the question about a quarterback swap: “Absolutely not. “
Yep. I got a ‘heck no’ when I asked about this recently. https://t.co/5OUPL0mQ5d

Health problems tip the scales?
Cody Benjamin of “CBS” would not classify this as absolute certainty, however. He speculates that if there are more defeats and “Big Ben”, who has been suffering from chest pains and hip problems lately, doesn’t get going, the Steelers could cite the health problems as an official reason for a recall.
That way, the franchise quarterback would at least save face.
