Ben Roethlisberger is about to play his last home game for the Pittsburgh Steelers before he most likely ends his career after the season. In his final appearance in front of the home fans, the Steelers are fighting for a playoff appearance.
Munich – An era could come to an end in Pittsburgh on Monday.
For 18 seasons, Ben Roethlisberger was the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers and could call the famous “Heinz Field” in Pittsburgh his living room. When the Cleveland Browns visit on Monday, it could be the playmaker’s very last appearance in front of Steelers fans.
Big Ben: “All signs point to it”
After reports surfaced back in November that the 39-year-old was planning to end his career after the 2021 season, “Big Ben” has now confirmed it ahead of what could potentially be his final home game. “When you look at the big picture, all signs point to it,” he told a press conference.
“I know we still have a chance to possibly get a playoff game here if things fall favourably. However, in the Regular Season, it really seems to be the last appearance there,” the signal-caller said.
The Steelers stand at a record of seven wins, seven losses and one draw. That means they only have outside chances in the current playoff race and absolutely have to win their remaining two games.
Last performance not in the foreground
If the two-time Super Bowl champion has his way, the Monday Night Game will be all about team success. “I just want to win this game – regardless of whether it’s my last game here or not. Either way, it will be one of the most important games of my career,” “Big Ben” continued.
After last year’s crushing loss to the Browns in the first round of the playoffs, he wants it to end on a better note this time around: “What could be better than playing your last home game against a division rival on Monday night? I’m honoured to play in front of the best fans and in the best stadium in all of sports,” he praised Pittsburgh fans.
“For 18 years, I’ve given the fans and the city everything I have. That’s almost half of my life,” Roethlisberger continued. He never seems to have lost his will to fight over time, no matter how hopeless the situation seems: “The ultimate goal remains the title. Also for me personally. We are not beaten yet,” he concluded.
What could be his last game overall will come in Week 18, when Pittsburgh travels to the Baltimore Ravens – unless “Big Ben” and the Steelers shake up the playoffs after all.
