A few weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to a contract with Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile, the quarterback is once again making headlines off the field. A commentary.
Aaron Rodgers’ dancing feet must be getting tired by now, given how often the quarterback has asked for his “last dance” in his NFL career.
The 41-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers a few weeks ago.
Before the first snap, he announced in one of his appearances on Pat McAfee’s show: “This will probably be my last year. I really wanted to end my career with a lot of love, fun, and peace. And that’s why I chose the Steelers. Pittsburgh is a great and glorious franchise.”
Rodgers makes headlines
It’s not really clear why Rodgers is now publicly flirting with retirement before the start of the season, once again making headlines.
Especially since the Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin are taking quite a risk with the quarterback.
Tomlin is one of the most experienced and successful active head coaches in the NFL, but despite a string of seasons with more wins than losses, the Steelers haven’t achieved much in recent years.
Tomlin’s coaching job is likely still safe for now. But if the Rodgers experiment fails, things could quickly heat up.
Steelers: Rodgers must deliver
The fact that Rodgers is once again making headlines only raises the stakes.
After all, the quarterback himself must first prove on the field that he can return to his former form – career end or not.
Of course, Rodgers belongs in the elite circle of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, but his last season at the top level was four years ago.
And as we all know, dancing is similar to falling. One wrong step can have serious consequences.
