NFL: Will the Kansas City Chiefs bring back offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy?

Eric Bieniemy could return to the Kansas City Chiefs and resume his former position.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Kansas City Chiefs are planning to sign Eric Bieniemy as their new offensive coordinator if Matt Nagy leaves the team.

Bieniemy was the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears in 2025, who lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round of the playoffs. From 2018 to 2022, he was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator. Under him, the offense never finished lower than sixth in points and yards and even finished first in the league in both categories.

Despite this record, Bieniemy was unable to land a head coaching job, unlike Matt Nagy and Doug Pederson, which surprised many. However, his subsequent positions – a year as OC in Washington in 2023 and a brief stint at UCLA – were considered less than successful because his approach did not work as well outside the Chiefs’ structure.

Chiefs offense has problems

In Kansas City, the offense has recently revealed problems: in 2025, it ranked only 20th in yards (320.6 per game) and 21st in points (21.3 per game). So a fresh impetus would do the team good.
