There’s stink at the New York Jets – and once again ex-head coach Rex Ryan is to blame. On a whim, he fires against his former franchise. This time it’s the current coach Robert Saleh who is to blame. But he has a counterattack ready.
New York/Munich – It is the duel of the former against the current head coach of the New York Jets: Rex Ryan vs. Robert Saleh.
After the Jets’ disastrous 17:45 loss in week ten against the Buffalo Bills, Ryan fired against Saleh on “ESPN”. “This guy is supposed to be a defensive guru,” Ryan asked, referring to the fact that Saleh’s team had just conceded at least 45 points for the third time in the last four games.
“Don’t ever compare this guy to me,” the former coach (2009 to 2014) responded sourly, saying he was similar to Saleh in his coaching.
Saleh counters – brother goes one better
Now on the “Michael Kay Show” Saleh shot back, “I’ve never met Rex. I’ve never had a conversation with Rex. I don’t even know him. If it’s that personal to him, he actually knows where to find me,” the 42-year-old practiced matter-of-factness.
However, Saleh’s frustration with his team’s current sporting form is palpable. With only two wins from nine games and an opponent score of 33 points per game, the Jets remain one of the worst teams in the NFL.
Regarding the unobjective criticism of Ryan, Saleh’s brother became more explicit on social media. “Rex Ryan took over a good Mangini squad. He won with it the first two years and lost every year after that with his own squad,” he wrote on Twitter.
Whatever the outcome of this beef, should Robert Saleh take the helm at the Jets, all the arguments are on his side.
