NFL – Trouble at the Cincinnati Bengals: Stewart leaves minicamp – Head coach Taylor responds

It’s not going to be a boring offseason for the Cincinnati Bengals. Head coach Zac Taylor has now been asked about a problem situation.

The Cincinnati Bengals head coach will have to do without two of his pass rushers in preparation for the season.

Firstly, Trey Hendrickson, who wants a new contract with the Bengals. His current contract expires after the coming season. The Bengals’ top star is boycotting camp.

Shemar Stewart has not signed anything yet. The first-round pick from last year’s draft and the Bengals are arguing over a new clause. Stewart has been on site but has not participated in on-field drills.

Cincinnati Bengals fail to learn from their mistakes – A commentary

According to NBC Sports, Stewart has now left the mandatory minicamp entirely, which he is free to do at any time without a contract.

He reportedly does not want to cause any further distraction. After all, he is a constant topic in the media.

Bengals: No end to the discussions

Why Taylor is not to be envied. He has little influence, but has to answer questions on the subject.

Taylor explained that the team’s focus is on the players who are there. However, he also emphasized that there is “good communication” between him and Stewart and that they have had “positive conversations.”

Regarding the stalled negotiations, however, he also said unequivocally: “I’m not going to make any predictions.”

Taylor emphasized that Stewart had attended the meetings, “he’s very positive in that regard. He’s learning well. And we look forward to seeing him on the field soon.”

Taylor was also asked about Stewart’s harsh criticism, which caused quite a stir (“In my opinion, the Bengals would rather win arguments than games”). The coach showed understanding for the young player’s frustration.

“I think there’s a learning process for all rookies, and we try to coach them the best we can,” Taylor explained. “First and foremost, we want to protect our team and our locker room. I understand when there’s frustration. That was his way of dealing with it, and he’s entitled to that. And we look forward to having him back in the fold soon.”
