Will Levis is now only number two at the Tennessee Titans following Cam Ward’s draft selection. It’s a situation the quarterback is not happy about.
The signs have been changing at the Tennessee Titans, at least since the 2025 NFL Draft. Number 1 pick Cam Ward is the franchise’s new hope and is expected to hold the quarterback position for years to come.
The victim of this development is Will Levis, who was only picked by the Titans in the second round in 2023. But back then, Nashville was under a different regime and Levis has rarely been able to promote himself since then.
The 25-year-old made headlines either with his unusual fondness for mayonnaise or with some completely wild interceptions. However, he was hardly able to show consistently good performances.
Nevertheless, Levis is extremely hurt to have lost his job as starting quarterback – even if head coach Brian Callahan officially refers to it as a competition. But everyone knows that Levis is now just the challenger.
Will Levis: “The situation is sh***y.”
“Anyone who’s ever been in my situation would agree that it’s sh***y,” Levis said on Wednesday. His solution: “I’m just trying to do my best not to let it affect me.”
Instead of burying his head in the sand, Levis wants to accept the situation as best he can, be there for his teammates and try to continue improving. That’s why he worked with quarterback guru Jordan Palmer during the offseason.
“It was about getting to know my movement and my body again and trying to get back to basics. I feel like it’s really paid off,” Levis said.
However, he is unlikely to have a real chance to challenge Ward for the starting spot anytime soon – if it comes to that at all. If Levis makes a good impression in preseason, he could also be a trade candidate.
Will Levis be traded by the Titans?
Teams looking for more competition in their quarterback room could make an offer to the Titans. In addition to Ward and Levis, Tennessee has two other playmakers on its roster in Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle.
Until then, Levis just wants to be ready if he’s needed. “I haven’t been a backup for a while, but I don’t plan on changing my attitude no matter what the situation is,” he clarified.
That means, “I’ll just be ready to play quarterback whenever my name is called.”
