NFL: Tennessee Titans release two starters – by far the largest cap space

The Tennessee Titans have parted ways with two of last year’s starters just under two weeks before the start of free agency.

They already had the largest cap space in the entire NFL before this move. Now it has grown even further. The Tennessee Titans have released two starters, Lloyd Cushenberry and Xavier Woods.

According to CBS, the departure of center Cushenberry will save the franchise $3.4 million in cap space. Safety Woods will even bring the franchise savings of $4 million.

This further increases the franchise’s cap space, which was already at nearly $100 million.

This puts the Titans in a promising position for the upcoming free agency and NFL draft. Tennessee will have the fourth pick for the first time, plus seven more picks in later rounds.

Titans under pressure after a weak season

However, the team needs to make some major improvements. Last season, they finished with a 3-14 record, putting them in last place in the AFC South.

Cushenberry signed a four-year, $40 million contract with the Titans in 2024. He started 15 games last season but was placed on the physically unable to perform list at the beginning of the year. Woods joined the Nashville franchise just before the end of last season. He played in eleven games (ten starts).
