Stefon Diggs talks about his trade from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans. The star receiver also reveals his first impressions of his new team.
Stefon Diggs spoke at his first press conference since being traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans.
The star receiver described the new situation as a “breath of fresh air” and emphasized how happy he is in his new home: “They’re very welcoming, they’ve welcomed me with open arms. I feel like it’s important for me to be a part of something like this. It is unique. You feel at home in an environment like this.”
Diggs couldn’t stop raving about the Texans and, between the lines, perhaps sent a little jab at his former team: “You thrive in a space where you’re loved. You thrive in an environment where you’re surrounded by people who really care about you and really want to see you win.”
Diggs has put up strong numbers since his 2020 trade from the Minnesota Vikings to the Bills. He has recorded at least 1,100 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns in each of his four seasons. However, the dream of the Super Bowl was not to be realized during this time.
As a result, tensions between the offensive star and the team grew last season after the team was eliminated in the Divisional Round of the playoffs against the Kansas City Chiefs. Diggs emphasized that he had expected a trade to happen as a result: “It was going in that direction. “
Texans: Coaches and teammates full of praise for Diggs
With the Texans, the 30-year-old will face one of the league’s most promising offenses around quarterback C.J. Stroud, the preseason Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Diggs is set to take the existing receiver corps around Nico Collins, who signed a three-year, 72.75 million dollar contract extension in May, and Tank Dell to a new level with his class and experience. According to “ESPN”, however, the offense only finished 13th in the league with an average of 22.7 points per game in the pre-season.
His teammates are enthusiastic about the new addition. “He’s been great so far and I’m really looking forward to working with him,” said Stroud.
Mac Jones: Jaguars quarterback praised by experts
During preseason so far, the connection between Diggs and Stroud has already been noticeable. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik tested the new addition at several receiver positions.
And even when Diggs didn’t receive the ball, his presence created space for Dell and Collins, who found Stroud for big gains.
“The guy is incredibly ambitious, you can see that on film,” Slowik emphasized: “He’s a lot like our quarterback in that he’ll do whatever it takes to win games, whether he has the ball in his hands or not. “
