NFL – Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger is certain: This player was better than Patrick Mahomes in his prime

Patrick Mahomes is already one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. But for former Steelers star Ben Roethlisberger, one player was even better than the Chiefs star in his prime.

Patrick Mahomes is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL. It’s no surprise when you look at the Kansas City Chiefs passer’s achievements: three Super Bowl titles, two MVP awards, six Pro Bowl nominations.

However, NFL legend Ben Roethlisberger believes that one player was even better than Mahomes in his prime.

During a livestream of his podcast “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger,” the 43-year-old was asked by a fan whether he would choose the current Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers in his prime.

For Roethlisberger, it’s a no-brainer: “I would choose Aaron in his prime over Patrick Mahomes right now. I think Aaron Rodgers was one of the best ever in his prime – Patrick is certainly one of them, but I think he’s just coming out of his prime.“

Nevertheless, the Steelers icon believes that Mahomes will be considered one of the ”GOATs” at the end of his career.

Mahomes vs. Rodgers: Will we finally see a direct duel?

Incidentally, there has never been a direct duel between the two top stars. When the Green Bay Packers played the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, Mahomes was sidelined with a knee injury. In 2021, Rodgers contracted Covid shortly before the game against the Chiefs.

In 2023, Kansas City played the New York Jets, but Rodgers had already torn his Achilles tendon and could only watch.

Since Aaron Rodgers recently announced that he will most likely end his career after the upcoming season, the 2025 season is the last chance for a “Mahomes-Rodgers Bowl.”

However, this could only happen in the AFC playoffs. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers do not face each other in the regular season.
