The Pittsburgh Steelers are reeling from a shock ahead of their first game in Ireland. Quarterback Skylar Thompson was mugged and suffered minor injuries.
A moment of shock for the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of their first NFL game in Ireland.
According to NFL.com, Skylar Thompson suffered minor injuries after unknown assailants attacked and robbed the quarterback in Dublin on Friday evening.
However, Thompson is reportedly doing well and has returned to the team ahead of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
“We are aware of an incident involving Skylar Thompson on Friday evening in Dublin,” Burt Lauten, senior director of communications for the Steelers, said in a statement to NFL Media. “We are not commenting further at this time as we gather more information about the incident with the NFL’s security team,” the statement continued.
The Steelers are staying at Carton House, a five-star hotel located about 40 minutes from Dublin and 45 minutes from Croke Park, where the historic first NFL regular-season game in Ireland against the Vikings will take place on Sunday.
Thompson is playing his fourth season in the NFL and his first in Pittsburgh. The 28-year-old was placed on the IR list on September 10 due to a thigh injury. The playmaker was a seventh-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2022 and started three games as a rookie, including one playoff game. He made one appearance for the franchise again last season.
