NFL season opener: Ravens QB Lamar Jackson doesn’t want Chiefs revenge, just wins

For Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, it’s not just the game against the Kansas City Chiefs that is a chance for revenge, but every game possible.

The Baltimore Ravens open the season Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson is 1-4 in his career against Patrick Mahomes. Last season ended in the AFC Championship Game at home, when the Ravens lost 17-10 despite being favorites.

And even though the current NFL MVP Jackson disappointed back then, when two of the three decisive turnovers were his fault, he doesn’t want to give the season opener any special significance.

Jackson just wants to win

For Jackson, the game against the Chiefs is not a game of revenge or revenge: “Every game I play in is a ‘revenge game’ for me. It doesn’t matter who we play and whether we lost or won against the upcoming opponent. I just want to win.”

The 27-year-old went on to explain his position on the team’s internal website: “We have to win the games in the regular season to still be in contention in January. We can’t start the season relaxed and end up 5-12. Because then we miss the playoffs. We think about the playoffs and always about the next game.”

A good start against the Chiefs would of course help the Ravens in the battle for the AFC crown: “I’m ready. I’ve been practicing against my own guys for weeks, it’s time to play someone else.”

Jackson gets his wish and it’s against the team that robbed them of their Super Bowl dream last season
