NFL responds to Gruden lawsuit after email scandal

Following his resignation from the Las Vegas Raiders and the release of emails containing derogatory remarks, Jon Gruden has launched a lawsuit against the NFL. The league is now asking that this lawsuit not be upheld.

Munich – The NFL has responded to the lawsuit filed by ex-Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden. The 58-year-old had sued the NFL after his resignation from the Raiders.

The reason for this was the assumption that the NFL deliberately forwarded disrespectful emails to the public, which in the end cost Gruden his job. Gruden believes that the league and Commissioner Roger Goodell’s goal was to destroy his reputation and career.

The league’s response could not have been clearer. In a motion to the Nevada court, the NFL now makes clear that Gruden’s lawsuit would be an “attempt to place blame on the league and Roger Goodell.” Gruden, the motion continues, was himself at fault and never harmed. That’s why the NFL requested that the 58-year-old’s lawsuit not be granted.

On 12 October, the NFL had already stated that the allegations were baseless and that it would take action against them.

Emails containing racist, misogynistic and homophobic remarks had come to light in early October 2021, forcing Gruden to resign. He reached an out-of-court settlement with Mark Davis, the owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, for the remaining six years of his contract. Details of the settlement were not disclosed, however.
