Led by star quarterback Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills have marched into the divisional round of the play-offs in the National Football League and can continue to dream of their first Super Bowl triumph. In the wildcard game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, the team from upstate New York won 31-7.
This means that the playoff quarterfinals will see a clash between arguably the two best quarterbacks of the season: Allen and the Bills will face the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson, who beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-14 on Saturday. Defending champion Kansas Chiefs, who were seeded for the Divisional Round, will face the Houston Texans (32-10 on Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers) in the second AFC duel.
Allen threw for two touchdowns on Sunday, but the Bills wore down the Broncos with a strong running game and run defense: 210 rushing yards for the Bills compared to just 79 yards of offense for the Broncos.
The Bills had made four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993, losing all of them. After that infamous streak, their team name was derisively interpreted as an abbreviation of “Boy, I Love Losing Super Bowls”.
