Aaron Rodgers continues to keep the Pittsburgh Steelers waiting. Edge rusher Alex Highsmith talks about the unclear quarterback situation.
The future of superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains unclear. Accordingly, the Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to announce which playmaker will lead the team in the coming season.
Just a few days ago, owner Art Rooney II said the team was prepared to wait “a little longer” for “A-Rod.” So far, the 41-year-old has not announced whether he will end his career or sign with the Steelers after all.
Meanwhile, the players do not seem to be waiting with bated breath for Rodgers’ decision. “I think we’re just trying to do our best every day,” edge rusher Alex Highsmith told NFL Media.
Highsmith backs Rudolph
“With the people who are in the building right now. I know Mason [Rudolph] is there and has done a great job. The guys are rallying around him, and like I said, he’s been here before and the guys know him; the fans in Pittsburgh know him. The way he helped us finish 2023 was great,” Highsmith said.
In that NFL season, Rudolph led the franchise to the playoffs after a string of losses.
He continued: “No matter who plays for us, whether it’s him or Aaron Rodgers, I’m just excited. Whoever is back there, we’re going to back him up and get behind him. I’m just looking forward to whoever it is.”
Rudolph had already worn the Steelers jersey from 2018 to 2023. After a year with the Tennessee Titans, he is now back and taking the lead for the time being, with rookie Will Howard and Skylar Thompson behind him.
Edge rusher Highsmith, meanwhile, has to deal with questions about Rodgers all the time. “I get asked a lot by my teammates and some friends who are fans,” the athlete says.
“If he signs, we’ll definitely be very happy to have him. I wouldn’t say it’s a distraction. We know who he is. He’s a Hall of Fame quarterback. One of the best who ever played,” Highsmith praised the four-time MVP.
