Next record deal: T.J. Watt extends his contract by three years, setting a very special record for the second time in his career.
The record chase in the NFL continues unabated. After the New York Jets with Sauce Gardner and the Kansas City Chiefs with Trey Smith announced new record deals just a few days ago, it is now the Pittsburgh Steelers’ turn.
They are giving their defensive superstar T.J. Watt a new three-year contract that will earn the outside linebacker a total of $123 million. This was reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Watt gets $108 million guaranteed
According to the report, $108 million of that is guaranteed. The $41 million per year that Watt will receive on average is the highest average salary for a non-quarterback in NFL history. According to Schefter, the 30-year-old has now achieved this record for the second time in his career.
Until recently, a contract extension appeared to be hanging by a thread. Just a few days ago, it was reported that the superstar was said to be dissatisfied with the state of negotiations.
That may have changed in the meantime.
