NFL – Pittsburgh Steelers: Aaron Rodgers changes his helmet again

Aaron Rodgers is back in the NFL. But his previous helmet is now banned in the NFL. The quarterback was unhappy with the replacement – and now seems to have found a new model.

Aaron Rodgers and his Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD have been inseparable for the past six years.

The problem: In April, the NFL banned the helmet model, which was last worn by Rodgers, Joe Flacco, Thomas Morstead, and Nick Folk.

The helmet failed the league’s stress and safety tests and will no longer be allowed to be used in the upcoming season.

Rodgers initially switched to a different model at the Steelers’ minicamp. However, the 41-year-old had no words of praise for the Schutt F7 Pro during a press conference: “I can’t stand the helmet. I’ve worn a Schutt for 20 years and suddenly it no longer meets safety standards.”

And so the quarterback decided once again to switch to a different model: Rodgers will wear the Schutt Air XP Po VTD II this season.

A model that looks similar to the banned Rodgers helmet and also has a smooth, classic shape. This is now a rarity: many newer helmets have more striking outer shells with indentations or patterns. A design that Rodgers probably does not prefer.

Ban on Rodgers helmet looming

The NFL added Rodgers’ helmet to its list of models no longer recommended back in 2024. A ban this year was therefore on the cards. Davante Adams, for example, switched to a different helmet last season.

In the NFL’s annual helmet test, the various models are tested for their protective function in impacts that can lead to concussions.
