NFL: Owner of the New York Jets buys shares in Premier League team Crystal Palace

English Premier League club Crystal Palace has found a new shareholder – from the NFL

Woody Johnson is entering the English Premier League. As confirmed by the first division club Crystal Palace on social media, the owner of the New York Jets will become a shareholder in the future.

“Although the deal is still subject to approval by the Premier League and the Women’s Super League, we see no obstacles and look forward to welcoming Woody as a partner,” the club said in a statement.

According to the statement, Johnson is buying the shares of John Textor, who owns 43 percent of the club. According to ESPN, Johnson is paying a good $250 million for the shares.

In addition to Johnson, Josh Harris and David Blitzer, both of whom are listed as shareholders in the Washington Commanders, already hold shares in Crystal Palace.

Reigning FA Cup winners

Under the leadership of former Bundesliga coach Oliver Glasner, Palace finished the past season in 12th place in the table.

However, the London team pulled off a major coup in the FA Cup. In the final, they surprisingly defeated Manchester City 1-0 to secure the title.

Textor is also likely to sell his shares to Johnson to enable Palace to participate in the Europa League (more on this here).

The reason for this is UEFA’s rule that clubs owned by the same owner cannot participate in the same competition. Textor was not only the largest shareholder in Palace, he also owns French first division club Olympique Lyon. Lyon has also qualified for the competition.
