After signing Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets were even considered one of the secret favorites to win the Super Bowl. But that was a long time ago – instead, Rodgers is apparently supposed to leave after a disastrous season – and as quickly as possible.
The fact that Aaron Jones no longer seems to have a future as the quarterback of the New York Jets is becoming more and more apparent following the dismissal of general manager Joe Douglas. ESPN also reported on this recently, citing sources. However, it remains questionable how urgently the franchise might want to get rid of him.
According to “The Athletic”, the experienced NFL quarterback could even be fired during the current season and not just at the end of the season. The New York Jets are even said to be considering pulling their sacked superstar out of circulation or benching him via the IR list. This drastic option is considered “increasingly likely”.
NFL: Aaron Rodgers wants to continue playing
Due to the four-time MVP’s lack of perspective and disappointing performances, an early separation would also make a lot of financial sense. The franchise could save $10 million in salary if they released Rodgers in or before the offseason.
However, Rodgers himself has not yet finished with the NFL. As can be seen from the report, the 40-year-old wants to attack again in the coming season – just not in a New York Jets jersey.
Rodgers and the New York Jets have had a terrible season
In 11 games this season, the “Gunslinger” has completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,442 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Overall, the Jets have a record of 3-8 and the playoffs are as good as over.
Even after the dismissal of head coach Robert Saleh, there was no improvement. Under interim coach Jeff Ulbrich, the Jets only managed to win once in six games.
