Zach Wilson’s time with the New York Jets is coming to an end. The quarterback is free to go, but reportedly no team wants to trade for him. Only the cut remains as a last resort?
The New York Jets had high hopes surrounding the 2021 NFL Draft that they had found the quarterback of the future in Zach Wilson.
Three years later, we can only conclude: Mission failed. Although the second pick in last season’s talent draft was used again in twelve games due to the injury to starter Aaron Rodgers, he disappointed again and was waived again.
At the end of February, Wilson was finally given the go-ahead by general manager Joe Douglas to look for a new team. So far without success, a trade has still not materialized.
According to “NBC Sports”, the last resort could now be a cut. Wilson is entitled to around 5.5 million US dollars for the 2024 season, which he will receive from the Jets anyway.
NFL: Will Zach Wilson ever find a new team?
If he is released by New York, he could sign with another team for the three-year minimum of $1.055 million. If that were to happen, the Jets would save that money and would have to pay Wilson about $4.5 million.
The only question is whether any team would be interested in signing him. Wilson’s work ethic is considered difficult, and all backup positions are already filled with the exception of the Kansas City Chiefs.
