NFL: New York Jets in crisis – Aaron Rodgers senses loser gene and “some kind of curse”

Aaron Rodgers seems at a loss after a more than disappointing season for the New York Jets. The star quarterback even speaks of “some kind of curse”.

The New York Jets are having a season to forget.

Going into the season with very high expectations and dreaming of a Super Bowl, the franchise has already been eliminated from the playoff race before Week 15.

With a record of 3-10, “Gang Green” is out of the running during the hot phase of the NFL season. Admittedly, some games were lost by a narrow margin. The team squandered fourth-quarter leads in several games and lost seven games by just one point.

The frustration among the Jets stars is correspondingly high. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson therefore suspected that the team may have a “loser gene” that has contributed to these problems.

And star quarterback Aaron Rodgers also seems to agree with his teammate’s assessment. “It could be something like that,” the 41-year-old is quoted as saying by The Associated Press. “It could also be some kind of curse that we have to break.”

Jets: Rodgers demands winning mentality

The New Yorkers’ period of suffering goes back a long way. The team from the Big Apple has not made the playoffs since 2010, has not won its division since 2002, and has finished third or fourth in the AFC East in each of the last nine seasons.

Creating a winning mentality must now be the declared strategy, even if the way forward does not yet seem entirely clear: “However it unfolds, this team, this organization will figure out how to turn the corner at some point,” said Rodgers.

And further: “The culture is created by the players. There is a framework that is set by the organization, the management and the staff. But ultimately it is the players who fill it with life. And at some point everyone has to figure out what the secret sauce is to turn these games that should be won into victories.”
