The New York Jets are still unable to win under their new head coach Jeff Ulbrich. They suffered a narrow defeat at home to the Buffalo Bills – despite a feat from Aaron Rodgers.
The New York Jets have also lost their first game in the NFL under their new head coach Jeff Ulbrich. In the Monday Night Game of Week 6, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his team lost to the Buffalo Bills at home 20-23.
Rodgers once again lived up to his reputation as the king of Hail Marys in the first half, finding Allen Lazard in the end zone from the middle of the field with the clock expiring to make it 17:20.
In the second half, it was mainly the kickers who made negative headlines. Tyler Bass for the Bills and Greg Zuerlein for the Jets missed a total of three field goals in the last 30 minutes of play alone, with Zuerlein’s two misses in particular being at least one too many in the end from the Jets’ perspective.
It was eagerly awaited to see how the Jets would present themselves in the first game with new offensive playcaller Todd Downing. Downing took over the position from the demoted former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
In fact, New York was able to move the ball significantly better on the ground and through the air than in recent games. Running back Breece Hall broke the 100-rushing-yard mark for the first time this season.
In addition, both Lazard (114 receiving yards) and Garrett Wilson (107) had triple digits in the receiving game and each scored a touchdown.
Rodgers interception decides game
Rodgers also had a solid game for a long time, but on the last play before the two-minute warning, he threw an interception that decided the game and destroyed any chance of overtime or a win.
“That was a golden opportunity. Sometimes you win games in the NFL and sometimes you give them away. Today we gave it away,” Rodgers lamented.
Josh Allen, on the other hand, remained flawless. The Bills’ star quarterback threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns, once running into the end zone himself. Taking over for running back James Cook, who was injured, Ray Davis ran for 97 yards on 20 carries.
With this victory, the Bills extended their lead in the AFC East to 4-2. The Jets, on the other hand, are in danger of losing their place in the AFC wildcard spots due to their 2-4 record.
