The New York Jets have had a disastrous season – again. But there is no shortage of fighting spirit. They are already looking ahead to 2026 with confidence.
For the New York Jets, the 2025 NFL season was another flop. Only three wins, miserable performances on offense and defense, and a head coach in Aaron Glenn who seemed at times clueless in his first year.
It was the Jets’ tenth consecutive losing season, and their last playoff appearance in 2010 seems like a lifetime ago.
The Jets have become the epitome of failure. However, optimism remains high at “Gang Green.” “I believe we can be competitive and respectable as early as next year,” said General Manager Darren Mougey. And Glenn emphasized, “We don’t expect another season like this.”
But where is this optimism coming from? Perhaps the draft is a lifeline that the franchise can cling to. After trading Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts and Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys, the Jets have a string of picks.
Draft as a game changer for the Jets?
In the upcoming draft at the end of April alone, they have twelve selection rights, including four in the top 50. New York also has access to more than $50 million in cap space. For a GM, this would be a paradise if the Jets didn’t have so many areas that need work.
And yet: “I’m looking forward to the upcoming offseason,” Mougey said. And he makes it clear: “I am more confident today than ever that we will move forward with what we have planned.”
But the pressure is high. The answer to the question of which quarterback the Jets will go into the upcoming season with could be decisive for the future of Mougey and Glenn. They cannot afford another misstep like the one with Justin Fields this season.
The fact that New York lost the last five games of the season with a total score of 46:188 did not help morale; at times, it seemed as if the players had already given up.
Aaron Glenn asks fans for their trust
“We’re frustrated with this season,” Glenn said. “I know the players are frustrated too. But with that comes trust. And that’s the fact that we’ve gone through this whole year to learn a lot about ourselves, about the roster, and about how we can get better.”
He himself has “complete confidence.” And he wants “the fans to have complete confidence in it too.” However, it is questionable how much credit Jets fans are still willing to give.
