NFL: Miami Dolphins beat harmless Los Angeles Rams

The Miami Dolphins pulled off an upset to close out the NFL’s 10th game day. The Dolphins beat the Los Angeles Rams 23-15.

After Tua Tagovailoa’s comeback, the Miami Dolphins are a competitive team again. Now the Hawaiian has clinched his first victory after his comeback.

They proved it again in the Monday Night Football game of the 10th matchday: the Miami Dolphins deserved to beat the Los Angeles Rams 23-15.

Statistically, however, nobody really stood out. Neither Tua Tagovailoa, who completed 20 of his 28 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown and an interception, nor the running backs, really made a difference. Overall, the Dolphins ran for 3.2 yards per carry on average, with Devon Achane leading the way with 37 yards.

Jaylen Waddle was the top pass receiver with 57 receiving yards, but running back Mike Washington on his only run and Tyreek Hill (three receptions for 16 yards) were responsible for the two touchdowns.

The Fins defense clearly outperformed. The Los Angeles Rams did not score a single touchdown, and even the five scoring drives all stalled relatively close to or in Miami’s red zone.

In addition, Anthony Walker and Kendall Fuller each recorded a turnover with an interception and a fumble, respectively.

Rams inefficient at all levels

The Los Angeles Rams were unable to convince in front of their home crowd. In particular, the statistic of only three third downs converted into a first down is worrying.

Matthew Stafford completed 32 of his 46 passes, but only managed 6.4 yards per pass (293 in total), plus an interception. Running back Kyren Williams had a solid game with 4.1 yards per run and 62 total yards, but his longest run was only nine yards, so he lacked the big play.

The best receiver for the hosts was Puka Nacua with 98 yards, his congenial partner Cooper Kupp provided a highlight with a one-handed catch in the third quarter.

The defense forced two turnovers in the form of Jared Verse via fumble and Christian Rozeboom via interception, but in the fourth quarter they were unable to keep the Dolphins out of field goal range and thus keep the game exciting.

After three straight wins, the Rams suffer a setback in the fight for the playoffs and now stand at 4-5. Next week, they travel to the New England Patriots.

The Dolphins, on the other hand, celebrate their first win after three losses and jump to second place in the AFC East with a 3-6 record. Next week, the Las Vegas Raiders are guests in Miami.
