Keenan Allen’s move to the Chicago Bears after eleven years with the Chargers has come as a surprise. The receiver admits it got emotionless on one subject
The NFL is a billion-dollar business. That’s why emotions don’t play a big role in many decisions. Like with Keenan Allen.
He played for the Los Angeles Chargers for eleven years. In 2013, he joined the team, which was still playing in San Diego at the time, as a third-round pick. He developed into a top receiver. But now, somewhat surprisingly, he has come to the end of his personal best season to date (1,243 yards and seven touchdowns).
But the Chargers have to save money, which is why top earners Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack and Allen were to take pay cuts. Bosa and Mack agreed, Allen did not.
And without much emotion
“There was really no emotion, it was clear: I’m not doing it. I’ve had my best season, so it’s not going to happen,” he said. Even though he admits, “Of course I wanted to end my career [with the Chargers], but things happen and you have to move on. “
Allen looking forward to his Bears restart
Instead, at nearly 32, he’s getting a fresh start with the Chicago Bears. “I’m excited for the new opportunity,” he said in his introductory press conference.
Allen is now expected to help the Bears athletically with DJ Moore. “Any time you have two players that can make plays and overcome man-to-man coverage, it’s going to be tough,” Allen said. ” If we both play together, it’s going to be pretty good.”
Who they’ll be catching passes from is an open question. Quarterback Justin Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Bears are expected to select their future playmaker in the draft. That’s where the team has the first pick.
