After rumours surfaced a few days ago that tight end Darren Waller could be traded away from the Las Vegas Raiders, the star pass receiver has now spoken out himself – and clearly denied all rumours.
Munich/Las Vegas – The trade rumours surrounding star tight end Darren Waller of the Las Vegas Raiders ended just as quickly as they arose.
On Monday night local time Aaron Nagler, a source close to the Green Bay Packers, claimed they were strongly interested in a trade of the 29-year-old. Waller now puts those rumours to rest himself. So the Packers won’t be getting rid of their picks before the draft.
Raiders won’t trade Waller
He told US broadcaster “CBS”: “Yeah, I heard the rumours too. I’ve also spoken to the team, but the clear message is that they definitely want to keep me and no trade is going to happen,” Waller explained in a radio interview. “We are just focusing on football at the moment”.
Accordingly, the tight end had no reaction to the rumours: “I didn’t really have a reaction to it. I took note of it. I’m here, like I said, to focus on football and learning Josh McDaniels’ new system. “
However, Waller also noted that if anything were to happen, it would be out of his hands anyway: “It’s business, you know that better than I do. What happens, happens. I only focus on what I can control,” he said.
Waller, in part because of injuries, totaled just 665 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the 2021 season after previously cracking 1,000 yards twice in a row. In 2022, he’ll earn about $6.25 million.
“I love being in Las Vegas and I love playing for the Raiders,” he ended the interview with a declaration of love. So at least once this season, Waller will get to keep playing for his “love. “
