Amari Cooper signs a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders shortly before the start of the season, returning to the team that drafted him in 2015.
Reunion in Las Vegas! Experienced wide receiver Amari Cooper, who had been without a team since his brief stint with the Buffalo Bills, is joining the Las Vegas Raiders – the team that brought him into the NFL in 2015, even though it was based in Oakland at the time.
According to consistent media reports, Cooper is signing a one-year contract worth up to $6 million, with $3.5 million guaranteed.
Las Vegas Raiders: Amari Cooper takes on important role
The 31-year-old began his NFL career with the Raiders when he was selected fourth overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. After three and a half years, Cooper was traded to the Dallas Cowboys during the 2018 season. Following stints with the Cleveland Browns and the Bills, Cooper is now returning to his roots.
Last season, Cooper played six games for the Browns and eight for the Bills. In total, he had 44 receptions for 547 yards and four touchdowns.
In Las Vegas, Cooper is expected to provide immediate impact. The signing is all the more important given that Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers, who is actually the number one receiver, recently requested a trade.
