NFL: Kicker drama! Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens battle it out for last playoff spot

What a finale to the NFL regular season! The battle for the AFC North division title and the last playoff spot has come down to an ultimate drama between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens.

Unbelievable drama in Pittsburgh! A missed field goal by the Baltimore Ravens with the clock running down gave the Pittsburgh Steelers the AFC North division title and with it the last playoff spot in the NFL.

NFL on Sunday: Top seed for the Broncos – Eagles and Bears both lose

The Steelers prevailed 26-24 in the postseason finale because Ravens kicker Tyler Loop missed his 44-yard attempt to the right of the uprights. It was the second kicker drama in a matter of minutes. Earlier, Chris Boswell missed an extra point for the Steelers, which would have given the Ravens the field goal for the win.

This means that Aaron Rodgers’ career will see another playoff game. The Steelers will face the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round, while the Ravens’ season is over.

Both teams fought a duel on equal terms. The Ravens got off to a better start and led 10-0 at the beginning of the second quarter, but Pittsburgh found its way back into the game and scored 13 points in a row. Things then took a dramatic turn in the final quarter.

Wild final quarter in Pittsburgh

First, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson found Zay Flowers for 50 yards in the end zone, and the Steelers countered with a touchdown run by Kenneth Gainwell. Baltimore responded again, once more with a deep pass from Jackson to Flowers, this time for a 64-yard touchdown.

With 2:20 left on the clock, Pittsburgh got the ball back with the score at 20-24. Rodgers led his team down the field, his pass to Calvin Austin in the end zone giving the Steelers the lead – and ultimately the win. Jackson did manage a spectacular throw to tight end Isaiah Likely on fourth down in the following drive, but Loop was unable to capitalize on the pass.

The Steelers’ confidence in Rodgers’ abilities was evident in the 47 pass attempts he threw, his highest total of the season. He finished with nearly 300 passing yards, while the running game was only a minor factor with 100 yards.

For the Ravens, in addition to the outstanding Flowers, running back Derrick Henry was once again an important factor, rushing for 126 yards, but this time without a touchdown. Jackson only threw the ball 18 times, but managed 238 passing yards and three touchdowns. However, he also threw an interception in the middle of the third quarter.
