NFL – Kansas City Chiefs: Underpaid? Patrick Mahomes takes a stand

Following the windfall for a number of NFL quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes has spoken out about his current contract.

Up to 275 million US dollars for Trevor Lawrence, up to 212.5 million US dollars for Tua Tagovailoa and up to 212 million US dollars for Jared Goff: This offseason, a number of franchises once again signed their quarterbacks to top contracts.

A development that has not passed Patrick Mahomes by. In an interview, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was asked about his contract and whether he felt underpaid given the current market.

“I know these questions come up every time another player gets a contract extension. Everything is fine for me at the moment. I feel comfortable with my contract,” he was quoted as saying by USA Today Sports.

Mahomes slips in QB comparison

It’s important for Mahomes to make good money, but also to give his team the opportunity to build a good team around him.

Mahomes signed a ten-year contract in 2020, which could see him earn up to 450 million US dollars. This contract has been adjusted slightly since then, but the total volume has not been increased.

With annual earnings of up to 45 million US dollars, he is now only in 12th place in the NFL comparison with other quarterbacks and ten million behind the leaders (Jordan Love, Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence).
