NFL: Kansas City Chiefs – Rashee Rice’s suspension period

The Kansas City Chiefs will have to do without Rashee Rice for a long time next season – contrary to what was originally thought, probably even from the start of the season.

Initially, the Kansas City Chiefs were still hoping that Rashee Rice would not be suspended until the current season, but now it seems that the decision has been made earlier than expected.

As Adam Schefter reports, the NFL will suspend the wide receiver for at least six games – starting with the start of the season.

Initially, it was said that the disciplinary hearing would not take place until September 30, meaning he could be available for the first four games. Now, there appears to be a change of plan.

A few weeks ago, Rice was sentenced by a district court to five years’ probation and 30 days in jail, which he can serve at any time within the five-year period.

He also had to pay more than $1 million, including legal fees and compensation for the accident victims. In 2024, he caused a serious accident involving a total of six vehicles in an illegal street race in Dallas, Texas, and fled the scene.

Two people involved had to be treated in hospital. It was only later that the NFL star turned himself in to the authorities and took responsibility for the accident. Marijuana was also found in his car.

The Kansas City Chiefs kick off the new season against the Los Angeles Chargers on the night of September 6 (2 a.m. German time).
