The Kansas City Chiefs’ chances of making the playoffs are not looking too good. Nevertheless, head coach Andy Reid remains combative.
The Kansas City Chiefs currently have little reason to celebrate in the NFL. On Thanksgiving, they suffered a defeat against the Dallas Cowboys, and their playoff hopes have dwindled noticeably.
Head coach Andy Reid appeared downright defiant in front of the press in view of the difficult situation – the franchise is currently tenth, far from the postseason ranks.
“When you play us, we’re going to hunt you down every game. That’s how we do it. We’re going to tickle you every play, every game,” he told US reporters. “That’s the attitude we come in with – and then the dice fall as they fall.”
The Chiefs currently have a record of six wins and six losses. They are only in third place in the AFC West. The Buffalo Bills, who currently occupy the last playoff spot in the AFC, have two more wins to their credit.
Chiefs dependent on help from others
There are five games left to play in the rest of the season. Even if the Chiefs win all of them, they are dependent on the results of other teams. If Kansas City loses to the Houston Texans this coming weekend, they are as good as out.
And yet there is hope: the last time Kansas City was 6-6 was in 2017. At that time, the Chiefs won their last four games in the regular season and secured a place in the playoffs.
“Every season is different,” Reid said of his team’s remaining chances. “This sport is full of challenges. That’s just the way it is. When you think about it, it’s probably a microcosm of life. There are always challenges.“
He continued: ”The difference between winning and losing is so small that every week is a challenge, a big challenge. That’s how you have to approach it, and you have to be prepared for it.”
Penalties a big problem for the Chiefs
One of the challenges facing the Chiefs is reducing the high number of penalties. The team currently has the fifth-most penalty yards in the NFL.
“We have to make sure we get the penalties under control and continue to work on our fundamentals and techniques,” Reid said. “I’m not saying I agree with all of them or even half of them. But they happened. We’re not going to use that as an excuse.“
According to the 67-year-old, his team is missing ”one or two plays. And that’s what this game is all about.”
Andy Reid is in a fighting mood
One or two plays that have to go the Chiefs’ way. Be it penalties, turnovers, etc. “We are in exactly the position where we can turn the tide if we figure out those two or three plays.”
The problem: time is running out for the Chiefs. Nevertheless, Reid is combative. “You won’t hear much positive from the outside, so you have to be clear about where you really stand and what chances you have. There are still opportunities.”
In addition to the Texans this coming weekend, the Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders are still waiting in the rest of the season.
With the exception of the Titans and Raiders, these are all teams that are ahead of the Chiefs.
