The Kansas City Chiefs have continued their winning streak in the NFL. Against a Washington Commanders team weakened by substitutions, the Chiefs won convincingly 28-7.
At the end of the eighth match day, the Kansas City Chiefs secured a convincing victory against the Washington Commanders. The 28-7 win keeps the Chiefs on track in the AFC. Patrick Mahomes played a great game with 329 total yards (25/34 completed passes), three touchdowns, but also two interceptions. He gained 40 of those yards on scrambles.
Isaiah Pacheco was the best runner for the first time in a long time, with 58 yards on only twelve attempts. His backfield colleague Kareem Hunt gained fewer yards but scored two touchdowns – one on the ground and one through the air.
The best receiver was tight end Travis Kelce. Although he fell just one yard short of a 100-yard game, he caught the 100th touchdown of his career and can celebrate a historic milestone. Rashee Rice (93 yards, one touchdown) also impressed.
Commanders without Jayden Daniels don’t stand a chance
Without quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders had no answer for the reigning AFC champions. Backup Marcus Mariota completed 21 of his 30 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown, but also threw two interceptions.
The running game was non-existent: Mariota was the best rusher with only 28 yards, while rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt managed only 25 yards in nine attempts. The team’s best receiver was Jeremy McNichols with 64 yards from the backfield, while receiver Terry McLaurin, who returned from injury, scored the Commanders’ only touchdown of the evening.
This means that the Commanders, with a 3-5 record in the NFC, have lost touch for the time being, while the Chiefs, with a 5-3 record, are moving into playoff contention and staying close to the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. In week nine, the Chiefs travel to the Buffalo Bills, while the Commanders host the Seattle Seahawks.
