The Kansas City Chiefs not only lost their Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys, but also both of their starting tackles. Rookie Josh Simmons was particularly badly affected.
For the Kansas City Chiefs, the trip to Dallas on Thanksgiving was a disaster. Not only did the Chiefs lose 28-31 to the Cowboys despite an outstanding performance by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but they now have to worry more than ever about making the playoffs.
In the medium term, the injuries to their two starting tackles could be even more serious. Left tackle Josh Simmons in particular is likely to be out for a long time. The first-round rookie suffered a dislocated and broken wrist. An MRI scan will provide more information about the exact details and treatment options.
The 22-year-old had already missed four games this season for personal reasons, but was in the starting lineup for the remaining eight games. His absence exposes the Chiefs’ old weakness from last season at left tackle, which Simmons was supposed to remedy.
Mahomes soon without both tackles?
But the rookie’s injury wasn’t the only bad news for Kansas City on the offensive line. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor also had to leave the game against the Cowboys with an injury, in his case an elbow injury. The severity of the injury was initially unclear.
If Taylor is also out for a long time, Mahomes would have to do without his two most important protectors. Jaylon Moore and Wanya Morris are ready to step in as replacements, but they are likely to be a significant weakening. On the defensive side, the Chiefs also had to cope with an injury. Safety Bryan Cook was unable to continue due to an ankle injury, and here too, an exact diagnosis is still pending.
