Justin Fields apparently has no future with the New York Jets.

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn decided to replace quarterback Justin Fields after week eleven of the NFL season.

The head coach of the Big Apple team announced that veteran Tyrod Taylor will be the signal caller on the field from now on.

A bitter decision for Fields. The Chicago Bears’ first-round pick from 2021 had three rather mixed years with the Bears before making a career comeback with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season.

He also put in solid performances for the Jets, but a lack of productivity and the team’s negative record did the rest. Although the 26-year-old’s contract still has a year to run, it is considered unlikely that Fields will play in New York next season.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings make sense in several ways. In addition to the likelihood that they will be looking for a backup quarterback on the market, the team could also be looking for competition to challenge starter J.J. McCarthy. Since returning from an ankle injury, McCarthy has struggled to replicate his strong performances from the start of the season.

What’s more, Minnesota has already proven to be a good place for former first-round picks. Sam Darnold, for example, was able to seize his opportunity under coach Kevin O’Connell last season and secure a long-term chance as the Seattle Seahawks’ starter.

Fields could also go down this path.

Baltimore Ravens

A fresh start with the Baltimore Ravens could also be an option. Fields would give the team another option should Lamar Jackson suffer another injury. Tyler Huntley currently holds the backup role.

Like Jackson and Huntley, Fields is also a good runner, which is why he would fit well into the offense for that reason alone. With him, offensive coordinator Todd Monken probably wouldn’t have to make too many changes.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers could also be a sensible choice if backup Trey Lance does not re-sign with the team in the offseason. Coach Jim Harbaugh knows Fields very well from his college days as an opposing coach. In 2019, the playmaker helped Ohio State to a 56-21 victory over the Wolverines, coached by Harbaugh. Fields shone with four touchdowns, among other things, and was complemented by J.K. Dobbins, the current running back for the Chargers, who also put four touchdowns on the scoreboard at the time.

Miami Dolphins

In Florida, too, there is likely to be a need for a backup behind Tua Tagovailoa, given Zach Wilson and rookie Quinn Ewers, and Fields would be a significant upgrade for the Miami Dolphins.

Pittsburgh Steelers

A return to his former team could also make sense under certain circumstances. If Pittsburgh needs to fill a spot on its quarterback roster, it’s conceivable that they could bring Fields back given their shared history.

During the past season, he had four wins in six starts. Fields threw ten touchdowns and only one interception. There could be a reunion, either as a backup or, if Aaron Rodgers does not return, as a possible QB1.
