The German NFL hope Julius Welschof will remain in Pittsburgh for the coming months. The Steelers have signed the linebacker to a reserve/future contract.
Julius Welschof can continue to hope for an NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
As the team officially announced, the 2024 undrafted rookie was given a future/reserve contract.
This means that he will remain with the Steelers in the coming months and will likely be able to prove himself at training camp. The linebacker cannot be signed by another team until a cut is made.
This means that Welschof is not part of the Steelers’ current 53-man roster, and his contract will not take effect until the new league year begins on March 12 and the roster restrictions are relaxed again. Then, teams will be able to have up to 90 players on their roster for the time being.
Last summer, Welschof had already had justified hopes of making it into the final squad. However, a knee injury in the third preseason game put a spoke in his wheel, and he was subsequently placed on the injured reserve list.
As Welschof explained in the ran interview, he had offers from other teams after his rehab. However, he wanted to stay in Pittsburgh at the time – and will start a new attempt to make the final squad there in the upcoming preseason.
