NFL: Josh Allen almost ended up with the Denver Broncos

John Elway was general manager of the Denver Broncos for a long time – with moderate success. His biggest mistake, however, was not drafting Josh Allen, as he now told us

John Elway is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. In the “Barstool Sports” podcast, however, the Hall of Famer reflected not on his active career but on his time as manager of the Denver Broncos – and admits to making a big mistake.

Specifically, it is the 2018 draft, in which Elway made what he considers to be his biggest slip-up as general manager of the Broncos. He left quarterback Josh Allen on the board.

“I loved him. But it just didn’t work out. He was my guy. That was probably my biggest mistake in my time as GM, not taking Josh with me,” Elway admitted. The two last met to play golf.

The Broncos instead picked up pass rusher Bradley Chubb, who had recurring injury concerns and was eventually traded to the Miami Dolphins.

Allen was instead snapped up by the Buffalo Bills, where the strong-armed Wyoming talent developed into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL – Allen totaled 4306 passing yards in the 2023 regular season.
