Thanks to Joe Burrow’s strong performances, the Cincinnati Bengals are still in the playoff race at all. For that, the star quarterback must be treated as an MVP candidate – a comment.
The Cincinnati Bengals still have a small chance of making the NFL playoffs.
Thanks to their overtime win over the Denver Broncos, the franchise has won its fourth game in a row and now has an even record of 8-8.
After suffering a number of painful one-score defeats over the course of the season, hardly anyone would have thought that a month ago. But star quarterback Joe Burrow in particular never lost faith.
And against the Broncos, the Bengals’ face was there again at the crucial moments. With 412 passing yards for three passing touchdowns and an additional TD on a run, the 28-year-old once again played big.
After the crazy game, Cincinnati’s head coach Zac Taylor summed it up perfectly: “I don’t know if anyone can be on the field, watch Joe Burrow and then say that he’s not the best player in the world.”
And further: “The clearest thing I can say is that I would not trade Joe Burrow for any player in the universe, and that’s why he is the MVP for me.”
You can only agree with his coach on his assessment. Burrow is not appreciated enough for his achievements and would absolutely deserve the title of Most Valuable Player this year.
Burrow has been playing in a class of his own for weeks
With a vulnerable defense of your own, you would think that the season would have been over long ago. With a 4-8 record at the beginning of the month, it looked like it, but the star QB led his team back on the road to success against all odds.
His performances in the past few weeks cannot be overstated; hardly any other playmaker currently has such a hot hand as Burrow. The first overall pick from the 2020 draft has thrown at least three touchdown passes and passed for over 250 yards in each of his past eight games – a record in the NFL that he holds alone.
With a total of 4,641 passing yards, 42 touchdowns and eight interceptions, Burrow is having an incredible season – in almost all statistics, the best of his young career.
Thanks to his numerous mega performances, he is the main reason why the team is still in with a chance of reaching the postseason.
Even if the Bengals miss the playoffs in Week 18, Burrow should be at the top of the MVP discussion alongside his position colleagues Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen!
