Jimmy Garoppolo was one of the most talked about personnel in the offseason. Now he revealed in an interview that the Miami Dolphins were also interested in him.
Munich – For the San Francisco 49ers, keeping Jimmy Garoppolo as a noble backup had paid off early this season after Trey Lance’s injury. The 31-year-old has been the starter on the field since week two and has led the 49ers to a 7-4 record so far.
In the offseason, however, the veteran was still being traded as a possible trade package. However, due to shoulder surgery, the quarterback was not traded. As Garoppolo now revealed, the Miami Dolphins were also interested in him.
Garoppolo: “Glad how everything turned out “
“They were talking. Nothing much came of it, but they were definitely one of the teams interested,” Jimmy G said of reporters before the upcoming game against the Dolphins. “It seemed like a good spot. Great offense, with head coach Mike McDaniel I remember from back in the day, too. But I’m happy with how it all turned out.”
It would have been questionable what role Garoppolo expected to play in Miami – starter or backup behind Tua Tagovailoa? McDaniel reportedly promised Tagovailoa the starter’s job up front.
So whether the Dolphins would have paid the same price for Garoppolo as a backup as the 49ers remains unclear.
