The Jacksonville Jaguars are entering the upcoming NFL season with Doug Pederson as their new head coach. On the one hand, the 54-year-old sees a lot of talent with the Jags, but also knows the gravity of the task.
Munich/Jacksonville – It’s been just under two weeks since the Jacksonville Jaguars introduced Doug Pederson as their new head coach.
On Friday, the 2018 Super Bowl champion answered questions in a media roundtable and talked about his players, coaching staff and ambitions with the franchise, among other things.
NFL: Jaguars HC Pederson completes coaching staff
“Honestly, I see talent here. Is it perfect yet? No. You see bright spots. You see the offense making progress throughout the year. You see the defense has made progress. Now it’s about staying consistent every week. We have to embrace that,” says the former NFL quarterback, assessing the situation in Florida.
Pederson knows only too well that he cannot secure this progress alone – it also requires the right coordinators, who are “the key for every head coach”. The choice ultimately fell on Press Taylor (OC), Mike Caldwell (DC) and Heath Farwell (STC).
Jaguars: Head Coach Doug Pederson Announces Roster Adjustments
Together with players and assistant coaches, Pederson wants to make the franchise competitive again after finishing last season with a record of 3-14. On the one hand, the existing staff is expected to go along for the ride, but roster changes are also planned.
“We are going to add a lot of talent. We’re going to increase the competition. We’re going to upgrade the squad. Every team does that, we are no exception. But I see talent here already,” explains the head coach, who also has the first pick of the 2022 NFL Draft at his disposal for this mission.
