NFL – Indianapolis Colts: Jonathan Taylor is having an MVP season – but with no chance of winning the title? A commentary

Jonathan Taylor is having a fabulous season with the Indianapolis Colts. But that won’t help him in the battle for the MVP trophy. A commentary. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning.

Looking back at the past twelve years of MVP awards in the world’s best football league, the abbreviation MVQ would probably be more appropriate. Most Valuable Quarterback instead of Most Valuable Player.

When those responsible award the league’s best player, they usually award a playmaker – regardless of how well players in other positions have performed. The last player to be crowned MVP who did not play in the QB position was running back Adrian Peterson in 2012.

NFL MVP 2025? Colts successful thanks to Jonathan Taylor

The most important individual award in the team sport of American football is also on the agenda in the current season. In the first eight weeks, one player in particular stood out as a possible candidate: Jonathan Taylor.

A total of 14 touchdowns, including four games with three touchdowns each. 850 rushing yards, plus 206 receiving yards. Truly fabulous numbers for the 26-year-old.

Taylor is virtually carrying his Indianapolis Colts on his own, leading them from victory to victory. With a 7-1 record, the team is currently statistically the best in the NFL. It’s just a shame that Jonathan Taylor isn’t a quarterback.

Indianapolis Colts: Taylor stands out with his performances

The running back is having an impressive season and would absolutely deserve the MVP award. However, as an NFL observer, it’s hard to believe that the Colts pro will end up standing on the podium as the shining winner. Too often, playmakers have been honored – and the position is generally considered too important. Certainly, the quarterback is the most important player on the field. If the quarterback is no good, then there will be no great successes.

However, even with strong players in the skill positions, success is not guaranteed. Josh Jacobs with the Packers, Javonte Williams with the Cowboys, James Cook with the Bills – there are several powerful running backs in the current NFL season. And yet Taylor stands out. And not just because he has by far the most touchdowns to his name.

NFL: Running backs have to fight harder

For years now, it has been the star receivers – alongside the playmakers – who have been showered with money in the NFL. Running backs, on the other hand, have to fight much harder for top contracts. Interchangeable, too prone to injury – arguments against the position group have been put forward many times.

Taylor is currently proving all the more how important strong running backs are.

It would be desirable for NFL officials to honor the 26-year-old. Because he plays exceptionally well – and to strengthen the position group.

But you can’t believe that will happen.
