The Houston Texans safety was arrested and charged with domestic violence on Thursday, according to the NFL Network. The 33-year-old is currently in custody without bail.

According to prison records, Ward’s charge has been upgraded to third-degree domestic violence because he is accused of strangling someone.

The Texans are aware of the situation. However, no further information is available from the franchise. “We are aware of the report regarding Jimmie Ward,” Omar Majzoub, director of communications for the Texans, said in a statement to NFL.com. “We are currently gathering information and will not comment further at this time.”

Ward is entering his 12th NFL season in 2025 and his third with the Texans. In 2024, Ward played in ten games, recording two interceptions (including a pick-six), four passes defended, and 48 tackles.

Selected in the first round of the 2014 draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Ward started 99 of 126 regular season games in his career. He finished with 549 tackles, 51 passes defended and ten interceptions. He has one year remaining on his contract with the Texans.
