Did chance decide the Raiders’ first-round pick? Another first rounder revealed a wild story
With the 24th pick in this year’s NFL draft, Terrion Arnold ended up with the Detroit Lions.
Many experts had assumed that the former Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback would be selected much earlier.
That’s how it almost happened. As Arnold himself said in “The Next Round” podcast, the Las Vegas Raiders were close to picking him 13th in the draft.
However, Vegas opted for tight end Brock Bowers instead – and that was decided by chance, if you can believe him.
“We knew the Raiders were an option,” Arnold said. “The head coach actually called me after the draft and said they flipped a coin to decide between Bowers and me.”
“I was just like, ‘Wow’.” Arnold was served.
Whether the young cornerback is actually telling the truth or speaking in metaphor is uncertain. The Raiders have not yet officially commented on Arnold’s statements.
Vegas’ general manager Champ Kelly told reporters, according to “CBS Sports,” that he “can’t confirm” whether there was a coin toss.
Arnold: “Pierce flipped a coin “
In Sin City, he said, they’re just “excited for Bowers to be part of the offense.”
Arnold stands by his statement that the Raiders around head coach Antonio Pierce flipped a coin and that’s why he ended up with the Lions and not the Raiders
