NFL – Damar Hamlin emotional: special connection to the Buffalo Bills

Damar Hamlin has signed a new contract with the Buffalo Bills. It feels “great” to the safety.

Damar Hamlin is staying in Buffalo. He recently signed a new one-year contract with the Bills.

It wasn’t as if there wasn’t interest in the safety’s services, who had to be resuscitated after his cardiac arrest on the pitch at the beginning of 2023 and was a starter for the first time in the 2024 season, playing a total of 14 games.

Testing out of free agency was therefore apparently a good feeling. “We had a lot of conversations and there was a lot of interest, which was pretty cool,” Hamlin said. ”I come from a situation where I didn’t know if I would ever be able to play football again. So to know that I have what it takes to pursue it and chase this dream, to go out there and see that teams respect my performance despite everything I’ve been through – I was very grateful for that.”

But he is even more grateful to still be playing for the Bills in 2025, who selected him in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. His rookie contract had expired.

“It feels great to be back here,” Hamlin said. “This is my home, this is all I know as a professional. I have a connection to this place on a whole other level. This is the place I want to be, the place I want to spend my whole career if I can.”

The 26-year-old ended the 2024 season with 89 tackles, five pass deflections and two interceptions, among other things. In the postseason, he recorded 15 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in three games.
