After slipping in the draft, Shedeur Sanders doesn’t want to prove himself to his critics, but to himself.
He was by far the most polarizing candidate in this year’s NFL Draft: Shedeur Sanders. The highly touted rookie quarterback slipped to the fifth round and was only drafted on the third day by the Cleveland Browns.
The 23-year-old went off the board as the sixth playmaker overall and the second quarterback picked by the Browns. However, the athlete is not necessarily looking to prove himself to his critics and doubters.
“My job here is not to prove people wrong. I prove myself right,” he said, according to NFL Media, during a press conference at the franchise’s rookie minicamp: “And I still believe in myself.”
Above all, belief in his own strength is important to Sanders. “I just feel like it’s me against myself in life,” he is quoted as saying by The Akron Beacon-Journal. “I can’t control any decision other than this one. So I just try to always do my best.”
Sanders wants to make the Browns roster
To make the roster, Sanders will have to show his best side. If he wants to become a starter, it will be even more difficult.
With Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, the Browns have two veterans on their roster, and they selected Dillon Gabriel two rounds ahead of Sanders in the draft.
Incidentally, the quarterback described working with his rookie colleague as “normal. He’s a really cool guy overall. You can tell he’s always in a good mood.”
