For the Cleveland Browns, Baker Mayfield is only the second quarterback after the signing of Deshaun Watson. Still, they don’t want to fire him.
Munich/Cleveland – Despite the signing of Deshaun Watson, former starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is still with the Cleveland Browns.
And it will stay that way for now, if a report from “cleveland.com” is to be believed.
As the website writes, citing NFL sources, the Browns are not currently thinking of sacking their playmaker. For good reason. Because firing him at this point would leave them sitting on the full guaranteed salary of just under $19 million from the final year of his rookie contract.
Panthers likely to rebuff Browns
In the event of a trade of the designated number two at the quarterback position, the constellation would be different. Then the trade partner would take on a certain portion of the salary
The Charlotte Observer reports that the Carolina Panthers knocked on the Browns’ door during draft weekend and made them an offer to trade the 27-year-old.
According to the report, Cleveland would still take over a handsome 13 to 14 million of Mayfield’s salary – which the Browns gratefully declined.
According to “cleveland.com”, they are now speculating that a team is feeling greater pressure to sign a new quarterback – be it due to an injury or weakness in form of their own quarterback.
The Browns are not in a hurry to get rid of their playmaker yet. He could still be on the Ohio team’s roster at the start of training camp in early July.
