Because the plan would be too expensive to implement, Paycor Stadium will likely not become a dome.
The Cincinnati Bengals will likely have to abandon their ambitious plans to completely cover Paycor Stadium.
As the “Cincinnati Business Courier” first reported, a study has come to the conclusion that a corresponding conversion of the Bengals home would cost between 900 million and one billion dollars.
The authorities of the Hamilton County responsible for Cincinnati had therefore examined whether a dome could be placed on the stadium.
But a dome will probably not be built on the arena, which is currently only partially covered, in the foreseeable future. According to the report, two of the commissioners in charge came to the conclusion that the estimated costs were too high.
One of them said after a presentation of the expected costs that he wanted to “close the chapter”.
The study examined several possible designs for a roof that would allow the stadium to host other events in addition to NFL games.
The Bengals currently only rent the stadium. They have until June 2025 to decide whether they want to take advantage of the first of two five-year extensions to the lease.
If the Bengals decide against it, they could move out as early as 2026.
The Bengals recently invested $120 million.
However, this scenario is not really likely. After all, the franchise only invested $120 million in modernizing the stadium last offseason.
“The Bengals continue to invest in our future here in Cincinnati,” said Executive Vice President Katie Blackburn in a statement at the time.
She added: ‘We are fortunate to have a great stadium, and we are proud to invest in this great property to make it a world-class facility.’
